Services

Metallic and Composite Component Stress analysis - New product or improvement of existing structure​

Analysis from concept to final product. Work can be done using classic hand calculations (Excel/Mathcad) as well as utilising Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (Hypermesh, Optistruct, Nastran). We specialise in optimisation for minimum weight to meet strength or certification requirements.​

We always work closely with the design team, helping to deliver the results in the shortest time at the lowest cost.​ ​

Linear and Non-linear FE analysis

FE analysis allows accurate simulation of structural behaviour. We prefer to use Hyperworks (Hypermesh/Radioss/Optistruct) software, however are flexible and are happy to use software packages required by the client.​

Finite Element Model (FEM) Verification and Validation​

The prime purpose of the FE model is to simulate the behaviour of the real structure under certain conditions. We do a full quality and convergence check of the model, making sure it is as accurate as possible with no anomalies and results can be trusted. ​ If test results are available, we can validate the FE model against this data to further enhance the model simulation.​

Optimisation/Feasibility/Trade-off study​

​ Optimisation of the structure can be performed in Optistruct at the early stages of design development as well as on existing products.

This will help to reduce the weight and cost of the product, as well as helping to find a good balance between the strength of the structure, affordability its use of assembly space. ​

Loads derivation

Every analysis starts from evaluation of 3 main components - boundary conditions, materials and loads. Deriving the right loads is not always a straightforward and easy process, so Fantail would review the requirements and help with load derivation, then work with you to determine the boundary condistions. Finally a determination of load paths (with clear free body diagrams), will lead to the final and analysis and consideration of any pertinent of failure modes.​

Certification, tests support, results validation

The final stage of every design is usually a certification and testing stage. Successful tests will confirm any assumptions used in the analysis and show that the structure meets all necessary requirements and is safe to the end user. We will help with any certification plan based on necessary requirements, support testing and validate results against the hand calculations or FEM.​

Production of clear, concise documentation of appropriate quality​

Delivery of results can be made in any format requested by the client. In most of cases this is a stress report with supporting analysis/FEM files and/or a powerpoint presentation.​

Product Development​

Fantail can provide full support of product development, starting from the initial idea and preliminary design, and developing to the end product stage, completing tasks with delivering a full set of drawings, 3D and FEM models, stress calculations and reports.​
